DAA - Member Profile The Dublin Airport Authority plc. (DAA) is a state owned company which operates the State’s 3 main airports, Dublin, Cork and Shannon. The company was originally known as Aer Rianta but in October 2004 the State Airports Act created the Dublin Airport Authority. The Act also established new Airport Authorities at Shannon and Cork. The Shannon and Cork Airport Authorities have separate boards of directors and have been authorised under the Act to prepare business plans that may in time lead to their full separation from the Dublin Airport Authority. Aer Rianta International is the overseas business arm of the DAA and operates extensive Duty Free shops worldwide, as well as holding strategic ownership of a number of airports. Dublin Airport is the ninth busiest airport in Europe in terms of international traffic and will handle over 23 million passengers in 2007. The Dublin Airport Authority is presently focussed on meeting the challenge of developing the capacity required to meet the growth forecast for passenger numbers in the future. The Capital Development Programme at Dublin Airport is one of the largest infrastructure programmes in the State and the €1 billion plus construction programme will transform Dublin Airport over the next decade. Principal developments are the building of Terminal Two and related services, and the creation of a second runway. These developments will give the airport a capacity in excess of 30 million. Cork Airport opened its impressive new Terminal in 2006 and handled in excess of 3 million passengers last year. Shannon Airport handled 3.6 million passengers in 2006 of which almost 3M were terminal passengers.
