American Express started as an express mail business in Up-State New York in 1850. Although perhaps best known for its credit card and travellers cheques business, it now describes itself as primarily a banking, financial services and insurance company.
Headquartered in New York, it generates annual revenues of close to $30 billion, and has over 65,000 employees worldwide. It also has an extensive travel division, founded in 1915, whose main focus now is on business customers and business travel.
Audrey Hendley is Vice President of Marketing and Strategic Partnerships, at the Consumer Travel Network, and she recently spoke to ITIC.
