American Express sees travel resurgence

  • American Express started as an express mail business in Up-State New York in 1850. Although perhaps best known for its credit card and travellers cheques business, it now describes itself as primarily a banking, financial services and insurance company.
  • Headquartered in New York, it generates annual revenues of close to $30 billion, and has over 65,000 employees worldwide. It also has an extensive travel division, founded in 1915, whose main focus now is on business customers and business travel.
  • Audrey Hendley is Vice President of Marketing and Strategic Partnerships, at the Consumer Travel Network, and she recently spoke to ITIC.
