Government publishes Tourism Policy

  • People, Place and Policy, Growing Tourism to 2015.Finally the Tourism Policy was launched this week by An Taoiseach Enda Kenny and the Minister for Transport, Tourism & Sport, Paschal Donohoe.
  • It promises much, including 10 million visitors spending €5 billion annually, employing 250,000 people by 2025.  Interesting to recall that the last 10 year policy statement published in 2003 forecast 10 million visitors producing €6 billion annually by 2012.  Are we losing ambition, or are we becoming better forecasters?  Let us know what you think.
  • The Minister promises the creation of a Tourism Leadership Group within weeks, which will oversee the creation of an initial 3 year Tourism Action Plan for 2015-2018. One hopes that’s a typo and that it should read 2016-2018.
