National Greenways Strategy

Last week – in Moate, Co. Westmeath – Minister Shane Ross and Ministers of State Brendan Griffin and Boxer Moran launched the National Greenways Strategy. This is a welcome development as Greenways have the potential to be a compelling tourism product that have international appeal and aid the regional spread of tourism. When launching the strategy Minister Ross stated that €53 million was to be allocated to Greenways development over the next 3 years and there would be at least one “coast-to-coast” Greenway which is something the Irish Tourism Industry Confederation (ITIC) has campaigned on for some time and was a recommendation within ITIC’s Tourism 2025 strategy.
