The Irish Tourist Industry Confederation (ITIC) is pleased to present our Year End Review of 2016 & Outlook for 2017.
2016 has proved to be a remarkable year of growth for Irish tourism with the sector for the first time worth over €8 billion. 8.8 million international tourists visited Ireland in 2016 and collectively they spent €4.7 billion while here, an increase of 9% on last year.
The success of Irish tourism is testament to the quality and competitiveness of the industry as well as the fact that a number of external factors have been in our favour. Tourism now employs 230,000 people throughout the country and is Ireland’s largest indigenous sector. Despite challenges around Brexit, competitiveness and capacity, ITIC is positive for 2017 and indeed looking beyond that there is significant potential to be realised for tourism.
