In May a Tourism Recovery Taskforce (TRT) was set up by Government to identify the immediate survival needs of Ireland’s tourism sector as well as set out a route for a return to growth. Yesterday the Tourism Recovery Plan 2020-23 was submitted to Cabinet and it includes strong, bold and innovative stabilisation and recovery recommendations. With just a week to go before Budget 2021 the timing of the Tourism Recovery Plan is opportune and it shines a spotlight on measures needed to rescue a sector disproportionately hit by the Covid pandemic.
The Irish Tourism Industry Confederation (ITIC) spoke with TRT’s independent Chairperson Ruth Andrews to hear about how the plan came together, the key recommendations, and what recovery might look like. In a revealing 20 minute interview Ruth outlines how the report sets out a roadmap for tourism’s future and how such a strategic comprehensive body of work was turned around in just 5 months.
